About the Course
Absolute Beginner
This 9-month course is designed for absolute beginner adults with no prior knowledge of French. The course meets once a week for 30 weeks, October to June. The focus is on developing practical communication skills in real-life situations, integrating listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Adult group classes are for absolute beginners. If you have studied French for more than 90 hours, contact us for a placement test to join a DELF level group class.
October: Introduction & Basics
Get comfortable with basic introductions and classroom language.
Week 1: Alphabet, greetings, basic classroom instructions
Week 2: Introducing yourself (name, nationality, where you're from)
Week 3: Numbers 1–31
Week 4: Days of the week, months, and basic calendar expressions
November: Personal Information
Goal: Asking and answering questions about yourself and others.
Week 5: Talking about age, birthday, and origin
Week 6: Professions and simple family vocabulary
Week 7: Talking about where you live, your address
Week 8: Gender and articles (un/une, le/la), plural forms
January: Everyday Life
Talk about daily routines and simple activities.
Week 9: Telling the time, parts of the day
Week 10: Daily routine verbs (se lever, manger, travailler)
Week 11: Days of the week, expressions of frequency
Week 12: Present tense of regular -er verbs
February: Food and Drink
Ordering food, shopping, expressing preferences.
Week 13: Food vocabulary, meals, typical French dishes
Week 14: Ordering in a café or restaurant (menus, polite phrases)
Week 15: Quantities, asking for prices, shopping at a market
Week 16: Partitive articles (du, de la, des), expressing likes and dislikes
March: The Family and Describing People
Describing yourself and others (appearance & personality).
Week 17: Family vocabulary and talking about relationships
Week 18: Physical descriptions (height, hair, eyes, etc.)
Week 19: Personality traits, basic adjectives
Week 20: Agreement of adjectives, être and avoir revision
April: The City and Directions
Navigating a city, giving and asking for directions.
Week 21: Places in the town (la poste, la banque, le marché)
Week 22: Asking for and giving directions
Week 23: Transport vocabulary, using "prendre," "aller"
Week 24: Introduction to prepositions of place (sur, sous, à côté de)
May: Leisure and Hobbies
Talking about free-time activities.
Week 25: Sports, music, reading, cinema
Week 26: Talking about preferences (j’aime, je n’aime pas)
Week 27: Inviting someone, accepting/refusing invitations
Week 28: Faire and aller in the present tense
June: Past Tense Introduction
Talking about past events (very basic).
Week 29: Introduction to passé composé with avoir (regular verbs)
Week 30: Talking about what you did over the weekend

Adora Sas

Adora Sas is a UK Trained teacher with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, a bachelor's degree in French and a master's degree in Scientific, Technical and Medical translation. An experienced classroom practitioner and professional linguist, Adora brings several years of experience teaching at secondary schools in London to the role, as well as language experience gained as a freelance translator and précis-writer working for various agencies and international organizations, including the World Health Organization in Geneva.
